Bendigo Bank leads the way in organisational transformation

30 March 2023 |Announcements

Bendigo Bank has been announced as the winner of the 2023 MongoDB APAC Innovation Award in the Organisational Transformation category. The award is a demonstration of how the bank is using data to drive new efficiencies.

MongoDB is a developer data platform company that helps developers and organisations create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. Bendigo Bank has been on a multi-year journey of transformation using MongoDB's cloud database service, Atlas, to build new capabilities, reduce complexity, uncover efficiencies and deliver a better customer experience.

Recently, Bendigo Bank’s cloud team launched Ready-Set-MongoDB (RSM). This event-driven framework allows developers to streamline processes and apply data transformations, leading to faster and improved outcomes.

These improvements allow the technology team to identify cost savings and save time as the initiative automates projects that would normally need to be done manually.

Andrew Cresp, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Chief Information Officer is pleased with the early results the team has produced with the assistance of RSM and MongoDB.

“We needed a database that was great for developers to work with, was inherently scalable, had great operational tooling and, of course, had best in class security and privacy features,” Mr Cresp said.

Within the first 18 months of launching these programmes, the automation had saved the organisation more than 1,100 days of work for developers. It also helped reduce human involvement, removed stale data, and allowed engineers to focus on the things that matter.

Matt Vermeer, Cloud Platforms Services Owner at Bendigo Bank was on the ground for the rollout of the project and can’t wait to see what more it can do for the business.

“It’s fantastic to see the team be recognised for this work and it has already made such a difference to how the team operates. There’s so much capability and we can’t wait to build on it even more,” Mr Vermeer said.

The award is a good example of how Bendigo's Technology Department is using innovative technology to reduce complexity and drive efficiencies in the organisation.

Simon Eid, Senior Vice President APAC, MongoDB is looking forward to what the bank will do in the future.

"Congratulations to the entire team at Bendigo Bank. From the vision of the senior leadership through to the execution by the team on the ground. The work done by Bendigo Bank in the past 12 months is a great example of what true transformation really looks like. We're very proud of the work we've already done together but we're even more excited for what's coming next," Mr Eid said.
