Energy solutions

Community Energy Australia works with communities to establish structures that allow them to take control of energy sourcing, use and distribution in a sustainable way. It also creates innovative financial products that enable people to offset their own carbon emissions.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, Community Energy Australia applies the proven Community Bank® model to pool community demand for energy and improve buying and negotiating power.

The Community Energy model also generates income for communities which can be invested in local development.

Fuel solutions

Community Energy Australia works with communities to find the best way to meet their community fuel needs.

Initiated by local farmers who wanted to establish a bio-diesel plant in their region, supported by locally-grown oil seed, the North Central Victorian Community Fuel Project is a fine example of how community energy projects can work.

Partnering with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, regionally-based transport companies and local council, the Elmore and Lockington community led a successful pilot project, gathering pledges of support from community members. They are now achieving greater security and control of their fuel supplies.

Evolving in a series of phases, the community is currently managing and generating income from the distribution of liquid fuels for farm and commercial use. Meanwhile, its own storage facility, and ultimately a locally-owned bio-diesel plant, is in development.

Carbon offsets

Community Energy Australia designed Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Generation Green Carbon Offset products. These innovative products enable individuals to offset their car or household carbon emissions each year. The funds generated are used to rehabilitate habitat and salinity-affected areas with indigenous vegetation which, as it grows, absorbs carbon.

Solar Cities

The Solar Cities project is a federal government funded initiative. Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is a member of the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance, a consortium working with thirteen municipalities to trial a range of solar energy options. Taking part in projects like this enables Community Energy Australia to draw on a wide range of possible energy solutions for communities.
